TLTR; Treasure is new Cloud storage that offers privacy and security to its users. On the downside, it does not offer decentralisation of the activity (among others) as other competitors do (eg. Internxt). If you want to know more about the pros and cons of Treasure, please read the full article.
As we have already discussed in other posts, privacy is a very important issue in the online world. More and more people are aware of the risk of trusting their data and documents on platforms such as Google Drive or DropBox (services that violate user privacy and do not take care of their online security). That is why there is a growing trend towards using encrypted cloud storage. With this type of cloud, your privacy is guaranteed and you are the only owner of your data. Today I am going to talk about new Cloud storage called Treasure, does it sound familiar?
Treasure Cloud is a cloud storage service that aims to ensure user privacy. Born in Singapore in 2020, it offers one of the largest benchmark programmes for free cloud storage. With its service, it aims to offer an alternative to Google Drive and Dropbox but more secure and private. However, I recommend that you take the following points into account before deciding whether to opt for this service.
👍Advantages
- File preview: a tool that allows you to preview documents without downloading them.
- Zero-knowledge encryption: you are the only one who has the decryption keys, so one in the company will be able to access your data (optional feature).
- Uses AWS servers
- Can manage multiple cloud accounts: you will be able to synchronise your account with your account in other clouds such as Dropbox.
- Free plan: you can find a 10GB plan totally free.
- Up to 10 GB free for you and each friend you invite.
- Well-designed and easy to use interface
- Security through encryption: files are encrypted while you share them, use them or during storage.
- Account recoverable in case of password loss
👎 Disadvantages
- No more than 100 files can be uploaded
- Low download limit: you can’t download files larger than 2gb
- Lack of integrations: you can’t connect to Onedrive/Mega
- Cannot move files or folders between other clouds, you have to download them first and then upload them wherever you want
- Slow interface
- File size limit: 100 MB
- Collaboration options: no ability to collaborate between teams
- No customer support, which is a big disadvantage as this is a key feature.
- No display of the upload process and therefore no indication of whether the files are uploaded or not.
- High price: High price compared to competitors.
- No desktop application is available, which is a drawback as an online connection is always needed.
- Controversial privacy clause as they say they are not responsible for any loss of files.
- No intermediate plan between 10GB and 1TB.
Below you can see a comparison table of this Cloud service with other very similar and more advanced Cloud services in terms of innovative features.
At first glance, Treasure looks like a storage service with potential because of its large amount of free cloud space, plus the possibility of integration with other cloud storage such as Dropbox. However, there are some key flaws such as the privacy clauses as they have tried to claim that they do not collect user information but in reality, they use it for almost everything. In addition, it is unacceptable that there is no good customer support. It is clear that the platform has a long list of drawbacks, even so, we can say that Treasure has possibilities within the Cloud industry. All signs point to improvements to come, although there is still a long way to go.
Personally, I recommend Internxt Drive, although Opacity is also a good option. From my point of view, I don’t think it’s worth spending 20 dollars more just because the files have a preview, so the quality-price ratio of Internxt seems better to me. Still, both encrypted storage clouds have achieved some features that Treasure still lacks and as a consequence, this is a competitive disadvantage.
