Hardly a week goes by without a new piece of news about cybercrime appearing on the news. As the technological era advances, it is becoming increasingly necessary to integrate Big Data in companies to adapt business activity to the digital era. As a consequence, integrating cybersecurity tasks into our daily routines with the Internet becomes extremely necessary.

Let’s not fool ourselves, we have all been lured into downloading music, series and movies for free from unauthorized sites, clicking on advertisements, viewing photos or messages in which strangers have tagged us, or simply getting into an illegal page; all of these actions are part of our online activity. Generally speaking, we have all fallen victim to the temptations of the Internet at one time or another.

The growing tendency nowadays to transfer personal data and photos on social networks has led to the fact that there are cyber criminals on the lookout for our information. Here are some tips and recommendations on how to stay safe on the Internet and make your browsing more private.

  • Use antivirus and firewall
  • Use a long password with the right characters.
  • Avoid giving out confidential information…

And blablabla. We all know the theory of what we should and should not do on the Internet but the reality is that the practice is a bit of a ball. Antivirus is expensive, passwords are forgotten, we tell where we are from to our Instagram account and we usually run out of storage on the computer and we can’t update the software.

There are accessible solutions that make our life much easier, and above all, more secure. For example, if you want to create a secure password that you won’t forget you can use a Password Manager like Pcrypt to randomly create, save and encrypt it. This way, none of your passwords will contain personal data. Another alternative to avoid being tracked when entering unknown pages is to use a VPN (Ivacy, for instance) and change the IP address.

If you want to use a secure and private social network, Telegram is the most appropriate. You will be able to encrypt the messages you send to your lover 😜 by creating a private chat and have them deleted after a certain time. As we already know, sharing nudes is very common but you have to be careful, everything you send over the Internet is saved, even if you delete the messages or get rid of the chat.

You can’t forget to turn off the Internet once you finish your daily activity and log off when you finish but as I know you won’t do it, I recommend you to: open the Start Menu, type run and open the application, type CMD and press Enter in the command console, and finally, enter “shutdown -s -t [time to shutdown]”. If you have a Mac you will have to go to system preferences, click on saver (the one with the light bulb icon), click on schedule (at the bottom right of the window) and set the time you want your computer to shut down.

Finally, Google is not your friend. Although the most important thing today is to keep all your files, photos and videos in cloud storage Google is not the best option, this company keeps all our information and sells it to third parties. You have to bet on storage where you know for sure that all your information is stored securely and synchronized with your electronic devices. Personally, I recommend Internxt Drive, secure and private cloud storage that is based on blockchain technology and encryption.
